| CANADIAN FORCES CF-18 DEMONSTRATION TEAM |
|
 |
The CF-18 Demonstration Team has thrilled audiences at air shows across North America, as well as at major sporting and social events in Canada, since the 1980s.
The principle goals of the CF-18 Demonstration Team are to raise awareness of Canada's Air Force and to aid in the Canadian Forces (CF) recruitment program. Every year over a million spectators and millions of newspaper and magazine readers witness the performance of the Demonstration Hornet, as it honours its yearly themes.
During the show, spectators will see more than 20 different manoeuvres, including rolls, loops, high speed passes and the High Alpha Pass, demonstrating the CF-18 Hornet's outstanding abilities.
The 'Demo Team' features four key elements:
- A highly skilled and professional demo pilot
- An equally skilled and professional maintenance/executive team
- A CF-18 Hornet with a themed specialty paint scheme
- A quality poster to handed out to the public at the air shows
2010 Demonstration Team Members
Every year, the Air Force selects a special group of people to make up the CF-18 Demonstration Team. These individuals are hand-picked for their superior performance and dedication to excellence. Without the hard work of each and every team member, the CF-18 Demonstration Jet would never get off the ground.
Captain Brian "Boozer" Bews, Demo Pilot - The Demo Pilot is just what it sounds like - the pilot who gets to fly the CF-18 demonstration jet. The pilots chosen to fly the demonstration jet receive special training, and the position is considered an honour among the Canadian Air Force fighter community.
Every year, the crew of technicians that maintain the CF-18 Demonstration Jet and ensure everything is in working order is selected from two Air Force wings - 3 Wing in Bagotville, Quebec, and 4 Wing in Cold Lake, Alberta. The crew from 3 Wing supports performances in Eastern Canada, while the group from 4 Wing supports those in Western Canada.
3 Wing Crew:
Master Corporal Annie Pearson, Crew Chief
Master Corporal Bruno Bergeron, Technician
Corporal Benoit Bergeron, Technician
Corporal Bernard Lachapelle, Technician
4 Wing Crew:
Master Corporal Colin Dickie, Crew Chief
Master Corporal Ian Blackburn, Technician
Corporal Francois Cyr, Technician
Corporal Sarah Nantel, Technician
Celebrating the Canadian Navy Centennial
In 2010, the Canadian Navy celebrates its 100th anniversary. To pay tribute to this important Canadian milestone, the Demonstration Hornet will adopt the Canadian Navy Centennial as it’s theme for the 2010 air show season. Featuring classic Canadian Air Force and Navy motifs and a striking paint design, the CF-18 national demonstration jet will be dazzling audiences across North America. The Navy Centennial theme, customized by Mr. Jim Belliveau of 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta, is featured on both tails, rendered in freehand airbrush and paint gun murals in subdued blues. The tri-colour Royal Canadian Navy Roundel from the 1950s is featured on the fuselage. As well, the main serial number on the nose, intake safety markings and false canopy on the underside were rendered in navy blue.
The tail art features a stylized anchor, Navy Maple Leaf, and wave graphics. One the left-side (port) tail, Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Winnipeg with a CH-124 Sea King helicopter is featured, and on the right-side (starboard) tail, HMCS Bonaventure with a Banshee fighter jet. The art reflects the intimate and longstanding working relationship shared by the Navy and Air Force. |
